Project to establish a network of cycling routes to be included in the Loulé-Silves-Albufeira Algarvensis Geopark, as part of a Mountain Bike Center / “Ciclin'Portugal” - Albufeira

(Preliminary study to define circuits to be completed by December 2020 and completion of signage and infrastructure work to be installed by December 2021)

As part of the Loulé-Silves-Albufeira Geopark's territorial development strategy, a study is underway to define a network of cycling routes on mountain bikes, gravel bikes and road bikes, with the aim of setting up a “Ciclin'Portugal” - Albufeira Mountain Bike Center, which will develop cycling circuits that will cover the territory of the three municipalities that make up the Loulé-Silves-Albufeira Geopark.

Bearing in mind the philosophy of a “Ciclin'Portugal” Mountain Bike Center, which aims to combine sporting activity with tourism, integrating various points of interest to visit into the circuits, with a view to creating new social and economic dynamics in the territories where these circuits are developed, and taking into account the objectives of the Algarvensis Geopark in contributing to greater social and territorial cohesion in the municipalities of Loulé, Silves and Albufeira, through a policy of enhancing the territory, based on the UNESCO Geopark concept, it was considered that the installation of this type of infrastructure in the territory of Loulé, Silves and Albufeira, will allow greater visitation to more depressed places, namely in the Barrocal, and thus allow greater economic dynamism to be created in these places.
